The federal co-working space at 480 Boulevard de la Cité in Gatineau shuts down Friday after reaching the end of its lease, Public Services and Procurement Canada confirmed.
The closure marks the end of one node in the government's multi-year "GCcoworking" pilot, which launched satellite offices across the country to support hybrid work. The Gatineau site was one of six in the National Capital Region.
Four others will remain open: 110 Place d'Orléans in Ottawa, 555 Legget Drive, 171 Bank Street at L'Esplanade Laurier, and 335 River Road. The Quebec-side outpost at 140 Place du Portage continues as well.
The timing coincides with the federal government's push to bring public servants back to offices four days per week starting July 6. Several large departments are staggering returns due to space shortages, and the government is considering "reallocating" co-working locations to help absorb overflow.
The GCcoworking pilot was originally set to expire at the end of March but was extended through fall. No decisions have been made about operations beyond that extension, according to PSPC.
The move underscores the government's struggle to balance its return-to-office directive with real estate constraints across the National Capital Region.
