Stittsville youth unveil mural titled Field Notes from Stittsville on Main Street
A new public mural created by Stittsville youth with $13,000 in city funding will be unveiled September 26, with community input shaping its design and local businesses donating materials.

Youth from Stittsville have spent the summer creating a mural on the north side of Pretty Pots Flowers along Stittsville Main, a project born from the Stittsville Village Association's success in securing funding through the City of Ottawa's Paint It Up program.
Planning began in May when Shasha Jimenez French of Birdgirl Arts offered her studio and artistic talent to lead the project. The youth played a large part in the design and painting, while community members provided input with ideas and past history. The finished piece is titled "Field Notes from Stittsville."
Rona+ Stittsville-Kanata stepped up with a donation of all paint for the project. "Rona really stepped up and donated all of the paint for this project. We are so fortunate to receive this donation," said Erin Zuber, Vice-President of the Stittsville Village Association.
The mural will be unveiled on September 26. The Paint It Up program, funded by Public Works and administered by Community and Social Services (CSS) Ottawa, has empowered youth through community arts since its inception in 2010.
Across the street at Village Square Park, MP for Carleton Bruce Fanjoy hosted his 'End of Summer' BBQ on September 5, drawing constituents from across the riding. The Stittsville District Lions Club volunteered to grill hotdogs, while Ottawa Fire Services set up and let children explore the fire truck.
