Home Bosses Youth Centre expands programs and seeks volunteers for new school year
The Stittsville centre, operating Tuesdays through Thursdays at Frederick Banting Alternative High School, added Lego Club and Basketball to its offerings this fall.

The Home Bosses Youth Centre (HBYC), located on the second floor of Frederick Banting Alternative High School in Stittsville, has expanded its activities and is actively recruiting volunteers for the 2026–27 school year.
The centre, which opened February 29, 2024, and was renamed in 2024 with sponsorship from The Home Bosses Real Estate Team, operates Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for students in grades 7 to 12.
Existing programming includes board games, Dungeons & Dragons, arts and crafts, beginner sewing workshop, foosball, ping-pong, and gaming consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Wii). This year, organizers added Lego Club and Basketball to the lineup. All adult volunteers have undergone Ottawa Police record and background checks.
The centre held an open house September 15, and attendance has been increasing each week since. Kiwanis members, who organize the space, are seeking volunteers—including high school students needing 40 community-service hours. Prospective volunteers can reach out to kiwanisyouth@gmail.com.
Beyond the youth centre, Kiwanis operates several community initiatives: Kiwanis Books for Kids, which donates books to the Stittsville Food Bank for food hampers; the Start to Smart School Drive in partnership with Staples, providing school supplies; and fundraising to purchase Chromebooks for children in need through local schools. They also host Movie Night in the Park at Village Square Park annually and run the annual Kids4Kids Talent Showcase, a non-competition event.
