Walmart Canada will open a new supercentre at Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre, taking over the 115,500-square-foot space left vacant when Hudson's Bay closed in June 2025.
The two-level store, expected to open in 2027, will feature a full grocery offering, general merchandise assortment, pharmacy, and pickup and delivery services. The announcement is part of Walmart's broader $6.5-billion investment in Canada announced last year and its continued expansion across Ontario.
Walmart Canada currently operates 150 stores in Ontario, including 10 in Ottawa. The company previously anchored Place d'Orléans before shuttering there in 2006 to make way for Zellers. Patrick Sullivan, president and COO of Primaris REIT, which owns the mall, said Walmart's presence is expected to materially increase foot traffic and create opportunities for existing retailers.
Five Hudson's Bay stores across the National Capital Region closed in June 2025 after the company filed for creditor protection in March. The Place d'Orléans location was one of several mall spaces left vacant since then.
