Claridge Homes has applied to build a nine-storey mixed-use building with 264 residential units at 1366 Baseline Road, on the former CJOH-TV studio site known as the Merivale Triangle. The application is pending.

The last time this site came up, the CJOH studio was already gone. The Merivale Road studio, opened in August 1961, was demolished after a February 2010 fire gutted its newsroom and studio, and CTV Ottawa moved downtown to the Market Mall building.

The building would bring 361 vehicle parking spaces, 225 bicycle spaces and 172 square metres of ground-floor commercial space, with underground parking accessed from Baseline Road. The 8,209-square-metre parcel sits among restaurants, banks, grocery stores and highrise towers across Baseline Road, with numerous low-rise homes nearby.

What we're still asking

Does the proposal sit within the 132-metre height allowance, and how does a nine-storey building square with the developer's tower-in-the-park plans?

What did the city's planning staff say about the application, and when will it be decided?

We'll update this story as answers emerge.
