A 25-year-old man was found dead in the Ottawa River near Britannia Beach on September 8, after entering the water and not resurfacing.
Ottawa Police Service received reports around 7:54 p.m. that a man had entered the water and was not seen resurfacing. Emergency responders began searching immediately from where he was last seen. The Ottawa Police Marine, Dive and Trails unit located the man's body later that evening and recovered it from the river.
Ottawa Police Service says there is no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The man's name has not been released.
The incident occurred after lifeguards were removed from Ottawa's four city beaches at the end of August. When lifeguards were on duty, they worked until 7 p.m. — before the time of this incident. Anyone with information about the man or the circumstances of his death can contact Ottawa Police.
