Senators captain Thomas Chabot and alternate captain Tim Stutzle announced Saturday they'll donate $1,872 to Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario for every win this season, with fans invited to contribute on the same terms.
The $1,872 figure reflects Stutzle's jersey number 18 and Chabot's number 72. After three wins before Saturday's game against Nashville, Chabot and Stutzle have each donated $5,616. The campaign runs through the season at sens1872.ca, which launched Saturday and accepts one-time or per-victory donations.
The initiative comes as the two players were named CHEO 'Kids These Days' campaign ambassadors Thursday, with the announcement kept under wraps until Saturday morning. Senators minority owners Kyle and Rachel Braatz played a large role in inspiring the fundraiser.
Chabot and Stutzle have been planning this for about a year. The connection runs deep — Griffin Bell, a local Senators fan who spent time at the rink with players on practice and game days, was an oncology patient at CHEO who died at age 6 in 2024. "Every time we go to CHEO, it hits us pretty hard," Stutzle said Saturday morning. "Everybody knows Griffy. There's no better guy to do it with than Chabby, and it hits him really hard as well."
Stutzle added: "And we want obviously, other people to join us as well, that's what it's all about, bringing the community together and supporting a great cause." The Senators Community Foundation is working in conjunction with the two players on the effort.
