Clarke Kelly will keep his seat on Ottawa city council, winning West Carleton–March with 5,239 votes. He was declared the winner just before 10 p.m., 2,144 votes ahead of challenger Christine Harrison.

Kelly watched the results at Covered Bridge Brewing in Kinburn. Harrison had endorsements from former West Carleton–March councillor Eli El-Chantiry and neighbouring Coun. David Brown of Rideau–Jockvale.

In a 20-minute victory speech delivered without a microphone, Kelly said: "I don't care what anyone tells you happened this term of council, we made a huge difference for rural Ottawa and we're going to continue that work this term of council." He said he had brought rural issues to council over the past four years, including bringing back the rural summit.

Kelly's father, Murray, said his wife, the councillor's mother, died seven years ago, and that the councillor decided to run after her death. Murray said the two spoke politics every day at five o'clock while Clarke worked on Parliament Hill.

Kelly also thanked newly elected Arnprior mayor Lisa McGee, who helps run the Ward 5 office.
