Ottawa police and firefighters evacuated Greely residents from their homes Tuesday night after a propane tanker truck crashed and overturned on Parkway Road near Cedar Lane.
The single-vehicle collision was reported to Ottawa Fire Services just before 7 p.m. on August 18. The fire hazmat crew was sent to monitor air quality and assess the risk from a propane leak stemming from a connection hose that was partially sheared in the crash.
The tanker had a capacity of 13,000 litres and was carrying about 7,000 litres at the time of the collision. One person was in the truck but did not suffer serious injuries. The Greely Community Centre was opened as a reception centre for evacuated residents.
Ottawa Fire Services confirmed it "successfully mitigated the leak" and that the truck had been returned to its wheels. The tanker truck was subsequently removed and all roads reopened. Affected residents were able to return to their homes early Wednesday.
