A 40-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with impaired operation causing bodily harm and death in connection with a fatal collision in Drummond-North Elmsley Township that claimed the life of a 10-year-old child in December.

Matthew Bigras is also facing dangerous operation charges. The collision occurred on Highway 7 when a marked Ontario Provincial Police cruiser was struck by a pickup truck. The crash injured an OPP officer and resulted in the death of a child who was in the truck.

The charges were laid following a months-long investigation. The case highlights the ongoing dangers of impaired driving, particularly for young passengers. OPP continues to prioritize enforcement efforts on regional highways where such collisions most frequently occur.

The charges carry serious criminal penalties and underscore the province's commitment to prosecuting impaired drivers responsible for fatal incidents.
