The Ottawa 67's have extended Dave Cameron's contract for two more seasons, cementing the coaching relationship that earned him the OHL's Coach of the Year award this past season.
GM Jan Egert made the decision to keep the 67-year-old coach, saying alignment on philosophy and values made it a "no-brainer." "I've known Dave for 15 years, and we align with our philosophies on how to run a junior hockey organization at the highest standards possible," Egert said. "We can challenge each other in terms of what is best for the 67's hockey club because ultimately that's what it's always going to be about."
The extension comes as the team prepares for the OHL Priority Selection this weekend in Kingston, where they hold the 18th pick in the first round and 16 selections overall. The draft — the first held in person since 2000 — will consist of 15 rounds across 300 players of eligible 16- and 15-year-olds.
The 67's took two players in Monday's U18 draft: Eli Humphrey, a 5-foot-10 centre from Cambridge who scored 48 points in 35 games last season for the Waterloo Wolves, and 5-foot-10 winger Andy Huang from King City.
For a city with serious junior hockey culture, stability at the top matters.
