The Ottawa Senators signed forward Tyler Boucher to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season on Friday, July 10.
The deal carries a league-minimum cap hit of $850,000 in the National Hockey League and a $90,000 salary in the American Hockey League. For Boucher, selected 10th overall by Ottawa in the 2021 NHL Draft, the contract may represent his last chance to prove he can deliver on that draft pedigree.
Boucher struggled early in his professional career with injuries — a torn labrum requiring surgery, multiple knee injuries, and a separate leg injury — and has yet to make his NHL debut through 115 professional games. But last season in the AHL, he showed promise with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 47 games, his best point-per-game pace at the professional level.
Former GM Pierre Dorion, who drafted Boucher, remained confident the organization and player would eventually succeed. "Your son's going to be a really good NHL player," Dorion told Boucher's father, ex-NHL goaltender Brian Boucher, in 2023. "He just needs a bit of time, but he needs to play."
