Ottawa Cyclist Killed in School Bus Collision
A 36-year-old Ottawa resident died Thursday after his bicycle was struck head-on by a school bus in Chelsea, Quebec.
A 36-year-old man from Ottawa was killed Thursday, May 21, when the bicycle he was riding collided with a school bus on Route 105 in Chelsea, police confirmed.
The cyclist was attempting to cross Route 105 toward Chemin du Pont-Alonzo when the bus, traveling northbound and carrying several students, struck him. No children were injured in the collision. The victim's identity has not been released.
Police from the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais closed Route 105 immediately to allow investigators to reconstruct the scene and understand the circumstances of the crash. The road remained closed for several hours before reopening by mid-evening.
This is a stark reminder of the vulnerability cyclists face at major intersections, especially when crossing busy routes during peak hours. The investigation is ongoing.
