British Airways customers can now book flights on Porter Airlines through a new codeshare agreement that gives European travellers direct access to 17 Canadian destinations, including Ottawa.

The deal, announced Tuesday by the two carriers, lets British Airways passengers purchase Porter tickets and earn Avios loyalty points on those flights. Other destinations in the agreement include Calgary, Charlottetown, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and St. John's.

"This codeshare agreement reflects our shared commitment to making travel seamless and enjoyable," said Edmond Eldebs, Porter's senior vice-president and chief operating officer. "More travellers have the opportunity to discover more of Canada the Porter way, with elevated service and comfort that we're known for."

British Airways' Neil Chernoff called the partnership a way to expand options for London-Canada travel. "This agreement makes travel between London and Canada even easier, offering more options and flexibility," he said.

Porter operates more flights from Ottawa than any other airline and has made the capital a cornerstone of its expansion strategy. Earlier this year, Eldebs noted the city's appeal to the carrier: a catchment area of a million people, many working in the public sector with higher-than-average incomes and a strong appetite for travel from a convenient airport.
