RBC has committed another $200,000 to The Ottawa Mission's employment-focused programs, bringing the bank's total support since 2019 to more than $500,000.
The funding backs two main initiatives. The Food Services Training Program, running since 2004, has graduated more than 500 participants with approximately 90 percent securing employment upon completion. The Maintenance Services Training Program launched in 2025 and has achieved a 100 percent employment rate among graduates so far.
Beyond funding, RBC employees provide financial literacy training to participants in both programs, covering budgeting, banking, and credit management. The bank also supports a mentorship initiative connecting graduates with current students.
Mark, a recent graduate of the Food Services Training Program, discovered a passion for food while working in a penitentiary kitchen after his release from incarceration. Referred to the Mission through Correctional Service of Canada, he gained culinary skills, confidence, and discipline—and is now pursuing employment in the culinary industry while rebuilding his life.
Many participants enter the Mission's programs facing homelessness, addiction recovery, involvement with the justice system, financial instability, language barriers, or interrupted education. The programs provide mentorship and stability needed for long-term success.
