Middle linebacker Nyles Morgan, the CFL's tackle leader with 38 defensive stops, will be sidelined for "a few weeks" after breaking his hand in last Thursday's 40-17 loss to the Edmonton Elks, head coach Ryan Dinwiddie said Wednesday.
Morgan broke the hand early in the game but played through it, finishing with seven tackles and a sack. Dinwiddie said Aaron Casey, who had 27 tackles and six sacks in 15 games for his Toronto Argos last season, will start at the "Mike" linebacker spot when Ottawa hosts the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday at TD Place.
Also expected to miss time are lineman Habakkuk Baldonado and starting cornerback Adrian Frye. The Redblacks, winless at 0-5 after the Edmonton pounding, are bracing for the matchup against the Blue Bombers before a bye week and back-to-back games against Montreal and Saskatchewan—two of the league's strongest teams.
"Next man up," Dinwiddie said. "The injuries are tough, but we'll give some other guys some opportunities."
