The Ottawa Senators will be without forwards Warren Foegele and Andre Burakovsky for three to four weeks, head coach Travis Green told the club's website before Saturday's game against the San Jose Sharks.
Foegele was hurt Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, when Jeremy Lauzon's knee-on-knee hit sent him off the ice; he could not bear weight on his right leg. The 30-year-old was placed on injured reserve Friday, freeing a spot to recall Philip Tomasino and Xavier Bourgault from the AHL's Belleville Senators.
Burakovsky, acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in June, was hurt by a hit from Mikey Anderson of the Los Angeles Kings in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss. The club has not detailed the lower-body injury beyond that. He had no points in his last eight games and sat as a healthy scratch twice.
Both men were expected to play key roles in the top nine forwards, and both injuries came in the first two games of the current road trip. The Ottawa Citizen has reported that Steve Staios, the Senators' president of hockey operations and general manager, has spoken with several NHL teams in the past week about acquiring a top-nine forward. The club has not commented on those reports.
