The Ottawa Senators defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in a shootout Thursday night at Canadian Tire Centre, with Shane Pinto scoring the overtime winner in front of 14,534 fans.

The result came one night after a brutal 7-2 home loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. Ridly Greig scored the Senators' regulation goal at 15:42 of the second period, assisted by Warren Foegele. The Islanders' Matias Maccelli opened the scoring just 11.2 seconds into the final period after a Pinto turnover.

The Senators improved their record with the victory but struggled on the power play, going 0-for-4, including an attempt in overtime. Pinto, who grew up on Long Island, converted his shootout chance against Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov, while Senators netminder Linus Ullmark was solid in net.

Head coach Darryl Green made several line changes ahead of the game to generate more offence: Stephen Halliday moved to right wing with Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson; Dylan Cozens slotted between Andre Burakovsky and Claude Giroux; and Nick Cousins centred Shane Pinto and Michael Amadio. Warren Foegele, Fabian Zetterlund, and Ridly Greig formed the fourth line.

Disallowed goals earlier in the game included Stephen Halliday's at 8:08 of the first period, ruled offside after Batherson was offside while Stutzle held the puck at the line, and Warren Foegele's at 4:50 of the first period when his shot hit the crossbar.

"I was lucky enough to bury it. It was nice to get a bounce there," Greig told TSN after the second period.

The Senators have now played their second overtime game in eight contests this season. As HighOnCity reported in October 11, Pinto also scored the shootout winner against Nashville earlier this month.
