Two Arson Investigations Launched in Centretown
Two fires in a single block of Lyon Street North are being investigated as suspected arsons, prompting a police probe.
Two suspicious fires within a block of each other in Centretown have drawn the attention of Ottawa police, who've launched arson investigations into both incidents.
The first fire broke out around 3:39 a.m. on May 16 on the 300 block of Lyon Street North, where firefighters found recyclable materials burning on the deck of a multi-unit residential building. When crews arrived, they quickly called in additional resources to contain the blaze. Firefighters deemed the fire suspicious, which triggered the formal investigation.
The proximity of the second fire—also in the same neighborhood, just a block away—suggests investigators are looking for potential connections between the two incidents. Fires in residential areas, especially when clustered and deemed intentional, raise serious concerns about community safety and the possibility of escalating activity.
Ottawa police are now handling the investigation. Anyone with information about either fire is encouraged to come forward. These kinds of investigations typically take time, but the rapid succession and neighborhood clustering will likely accelerate the police response.
