Ontario residents eligible for the Trillium Benefit should check their bank accounts this week for an early payment. The monthly OTB payments are scheduled to be distributed on the 10th of each month, but because May 10 falls on a Sunday this year, eligible Ontarians will receive their funds two days earlier on Friday, May 8.
The Ontario Trillium Benefit is a tax-free payment that combines three provincial tax credits: the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit. Residents must be eligible for at least one of these payments to receive the benefit on a monthly basis.
For the 2025 benefit year, the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit offers a maximum of $1,283 for individuals aged 18 to 64, or $1,461 for those 65 and older. Additional amounts are available for residents living on a reserve or in public long-term care homes ($285), or for time spent in designated college, university, or private school residences in 2024 ($25).
The Northern Ontario Energy Credit, which assists low- to moderate-income residents with higher energy costs associated with living in the north, provides a maximum of $185 for single individuals and $285 for families. The Ontario Sales Tax Credit allows recipients to claim up to $371, with additional credit payments of up to $371 available for spouses or common-law partners and each dependent child under 19 years of age.
Future OTB payments will be distributed on June 10, July 10, August 10, September 10, October 9, November 10, and December 10, 2026. If you do not receive your payment, wait 10 working days from the scheduled payment date before contacting the Canada Revenue Agency.
Ontario residents can also expect additional benefit payments this month, including Canada Child Benefit, Ontario Child Benefit, and Child Disability Benefit payments on May 20, as well as Canada Disability Benefit payments on May 21.
