Wilderness survival show '72 Hours to Survive' comes to northern Alberta for season two

Bushcraft survival expert Dale Kiselyk is taking viewers through northern Alberta's wilderness in the second season of 72 Hours to Survive, a television series dedicated to teaching viewers the critical first 72 hours of survival when lost in the wilderness.

The season consists of six episodes, each exploring a different way a person might become lost: snowshoeing, hiking, driving, hunting, or canoeing. Between boreal forests, wetlands, and endless trails, the show focuses on skill-building and practical survival knowledge rather than dramatizing disaster.

Show producer Tim McKort, from A Little Late Films, said the intention is to create "a show that really talks about the immediacy of finding yourself lost in the wilderness and what you would do to be successfully rescued." The series aims to be less reactionary than many other survival shows, instead teaching real and practical skills audiences can apply.

Over recent months, crews have filmed from Peace River to Manning, capturing Kiselyk demonstrating survival techniques in real Alberta environments. Their next stop is Fort McMurray in October. Beyond the city, Fort McMurray is surrounded by boreal forests, rivers, trails, and northern lights — all elements that will showcase Alberta's biodiversity as the show's backdrop.

McKort emphasized that Alberta's varied environments — from boreal forest to lakes to multiple ecosystems — are exactly what the show needed to come to life. The series will air nationally on Wild TV and on Eutelsat, a European satellite television provider with over 200 million subscribers. Kiselyk, who has been teaching bushcraft survival and outdoor skills for over 30 years, brought his expertise to the role of on-screen guide.
