A reward for information about the shooting death of a wild horse has climbed to $35,000 as the Help Alberta Wildies Society investigates.

Grey Hawk, a stallion known to wild horse advocates, was seen alive and in good condition west of the hamlet of Caroline on Wednesday. When volunteers returned Thursday to check on him, they learned he had been shot.

The Help Alberta Wildies Society reported the death to Fish and Wildlife and the RCMP and moved the carcass to a location out of public view. The group filed reports with the Sundre RCMP and announced an initial $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

On Friday, a supporter matched the offer, raising the total to $20,000. Additional pledges of $10,000 and $5,000 pushed the reward to $35,000 over the weekend.

The society says the money is intended to help identify whoever killed the stallion. Tips that help lead to an arrest may qualify for the reward. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sundre RCMP and reference file number 2026935914.
