Babcock Canada wins six-year submarine service contract valued at $1.1 billion

The federal government has awarded Babcock Canada a six-year contract extension to service the Royal Canadian Navy's Victoria-class submarines, valued at $1.1 billion.
The contract includes options to extend in-service support through the fleet's end of life. Canada operates four Victoria-class submarines, which are expected to be retired in the mid-2030s.
The announcement comes as the government moves toward replacing the aging fleet. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced earlier this month that Canada's preferred bidder for the next-generation submarine fleet is a German-Norwegian partnership. Shipbuilder TKMS could supply as many as four of its 212CD submarines by 2034.
One of Canada's Victoria submarines, HMCS Corner Book, is currently deployed in the Pacific, participating in the Rim of the Pacific international naval exercise off the coast of Hawaii.
