Carey Price, the B.C.-born goaltender who spent his entire 15-season NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens, has been named a 2026 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.
Price, raised in the Cariboo, played in the Williams Lake minor hockey system before joining the Western Hockey League's Tri-City Americans for four seasons. The Montreal Canadiens drafted him fifth overall in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
He made his debut with the Habs at the beginning of the 2007-08 season and became the franchise's all-time goaltending leader with 712 games and 361 victories. Price also backstopped the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020-21. In 2024, he was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame. Last year, a chainsaw carving statue of Price was gifted to the City of Williams Lake and is on display at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The selection committee announced Price as one of six 2026 inductees on Monday, June 22. Five players were elected, along with one in the builder category: Brian Burke, who started his NHL management career in 1987 as vice-president and director of hockey operations for the Vancouver Canucks. Burke later became president and general manager of the Canucks in 1998 and has since held executive roles with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (leading them to a Stanley Cup win in 2007), Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Other 2026 player inductees include Patrice Bergeron (Boston Bruins, 19 seasons), Cindy Curley (U.S. women's hockey), Pekka Rinne (Nashville Predators, 15 seasons), and Keith Tkachuk.
