The Bradley Creek wildfire has held steady over the past two days at 2,852 hectares as firefighting crews work to protect remaining structures in the area.
As of Tuesday night, BC Wildfire Service deployed 11 helicopters, 98 firefighters, 104 structure protection personnel and 15 pieces of heavy equipment to the blaze. Throughout Tuesday, crews established control lines along the west flank and extinguished hotspots around homes in community areas along Bonneau Road and in the south and northeast corners. Helicopters equipped with night vision technology continued tanking operations through the night and into Wednesday.
The fire displays Rank 1 and 2 fire behaviour — the lower end of the intensity scale. On Tuesday, Okanagan Indian Band Chief Dan Wilson confirmed that approximately 230 structures have been destroyed.
Evacuation orders and alerts remain in place across four jurisdictions: the Township of Spallumcheen, Regional District of North Okanagan, the Okanagan Indian Band, Splatsin Kukpi7 & Tkwamipla, and Columbia Shuswap Regional District. In total, four evacuation orders and three evacuation alerts are active. Those who have been evacuated and need support can register with Emergency Support Services by calling 3-1-1.
