Canada's men's national soccer team advanced to the World Cup Round of 16 on Sunday, June 28, with a 1-0 victory over South Africa in its first-ever World Cup knockout match.

Stephen Eustáquio scored the winning goal in stoppage time, securing the result in dramatic fashion. The match was decided in the final seconds before extra time would have been required.

The victory marks a historic milestone for Canada in the World Cup—the first men's team win in a knockout stage of the tournament. Fans gathered at the Granville Island Watch Party celebrated the result after an anxious second half when the match appeared headed toward extended play.

The watch party, which opened an hour early due to heavy turnout, reached capacity at 1,000 and operated on a one-out-one-in basis throughout the match. Site manager Don Robinson noted the family-friendly atmosphere and the patience of supporters waiting in line. "At a family event, it's unfair to let some people in over others," he said.
