Eligible Canadians will receive increased Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) payments starting Thursday, July 16, as the government indexes benefits to keep pace with inflation.

The indexation increase for 2026 is 2%, lower than the 2.7% bump in 2025. The Canada Revenue Agency adjusts maximum benefits and income thresholds annually based on the Consumer Price Index. The maximum monthly payment rises to $204.20, up from $200 in 2025.

The disability benefit provides financial support to people aged 18 to 64 with disabilities. Eligible Canadians must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, temporary residents who have lived in Canada for the previous 18 months, protected persons, or individuals registered under the Indian Act. Those already approved for the Disability Tax Credit can also apply.

Service Canada invited eligible applicants by letter with a unique six-digit code. If you didn't receive a letter but have a spouse or common-law partner and both filed your 2024 federal income tax return, you can still apply.

Applications approved after July will begin paying out the following month. Back payments are available for up to 24 months from the application date, but not before June 2025, when the benefit first became available.
