Canada is set to make its Eurovision Song Contest debut in 2027, and the public will decide who represents the country.

Five finalists were chosen from 325 applicants by CBC/Radio-Canada's music teams and an expert jury, who weighed vocal quality, experience, stage presence and the potential for a strong performance. The finalists are Josiane, Rêve, Talk, Tyler Shaw and William Cloutier.

Josiane is based in Dieppe, N.B., and mixes English and French pop with Chiac dialect and Acadian roots. Her debut album Take Care came out in March, and her track "Lose It All" has passed six million streams.

Rêve was born and raised in Montreal and is now based in Toronto. Her blend of pop, R&B and 90s Eurodance has drawn more than 175 million streams, and her single "CTRL + ALT + DEL" won the 2023 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year.

Talk, from Ottawa, is known for his eccentric, colourful sound and his 2021 hit "Run Away to Mars." He has released the multiplatinum album Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees and performed at Lollapalooza.

William Cloutier, from Victoriaville, won Star Academy in 2021 and sings in standard French. He told reporters he sees Eurovision as a chance to reach French-speaking audiences in Europe.

Voting opened Oct. 27 at 3:20 p.m. ET and closes Nov. 5 at 2:59 a.m. ET. Canadian residents aged 13 and older can vote once a day through the CBC Eurovision site, confirming their first vote by email. The winner will be announced before Dec. 31, and Canada will compete in Burgas, Bulgaria, in May 2027.
