Canada advanced to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, June 28, after defeating South Africa 1-0 in stoppage time. Stephen Eustáquio notched the game-winner late in the match, sending the country into celebration.

Head coach Jesse Marsch addressed his players on the pitch following the victory. "You guys are Canadian heroes," Marsch said. "You should be so proud of who you are, you should be so proud of this game. You never crossed the heat. You went after it, played at the point. Moment after moment, you are Canadian heroes."

The 52-year-old American-born coach has been all-in for Canada since his 2024 hire. His sideline reactions during the tournament have garnered attention on social media, and he showed pure emotion after Eustáquio's goal.

Canada now faces either the Netherlands or Morocco in the Round of 16 on July 4 in Houston. This marks Canada's best World Cup result under Marsch, who is one victory away from advancing to the quarter-finals.
