Canada's first offshore wind farms are moving closer to construction after a regulatory approval process cleared qualified bidders.
The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator identified six companies and two groups of companies eligible to bid on building the projects. The approved participants completed a review process between October 2025 and January 2026, meeting financial, technical, legal, and social criteria.
Some approved companies chose to keep their status confidential, meaning not all names have been released publicly.
A formal call for bids on seabed licences will be issued sometime later this year. Those bids will then be subject to federal and provincial ministerial reviews before final approval.
