Canada has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar to address evolving security threats and strengthen public safety through cooperation on transnational crime.
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said strong international partnerships are essential to keeping Canadians safe. The deal went into effect upon signing and can be renewed after five years.
The agreement follows Prime Minister Mark Carney's January trip to Qatar, which he characterized as opening a "new chapter" in bilateral relations. Carney said the two countries will work to boost trade and strengthen cultural ties, including by expanding direct flights from Canada to Qatar.
