Prime Minister Mark Carney says the G7 summit scheduled for next week in Évian-les-Bains could weave together "strands" of a new world order.

Carney made the remarks during remarks at Trinity College Dublin on Saturday, June 13, while on a six-day trip to Europe. In January, he delivered a speech in Davos calling on middle powers to band together amid great-power tensions — a message that gained global traction.

This year's G7 will expand beyond the traditional members. Kenya, Brazil, Egypt, and India will attend alongside the core group. Carney said the broader coalition brings "a broader perspective and a broader element of the solution."

France, which is leading the summit, has set priorities including major geopolitical crises, support for Ukraine, crime prevention, and online child safety.

The summit unfolds as the PM continues to reshape Canada's diplomatic posture on the world stage.
