The BC Wildfire Service continued overnight tanking operations Friday, July 31, as crews battle the Guichon Creek wildfire near Logan Lake, which has grown to 152 hectares and remains out of control.

On Thursday, the BC Wildfire Service assisted the Logan Lake Fire Department with ground and aerial support, deploying skimmers and airtankers to support firefighting personnel and heavy equipment. Using helicopters equipped with night vision imaging systems, the service provided tanking operations into Thursday night and Friday morning.

On Thursday, the fire displayed Rank 2 and 3 behaviour, described as a surface fire with some open flame, occasional candling, and a slow to moderate rate of spread.

The evacuation alert issued July 29 for seven properties on Tunkwa Lake Road remains in effect. The BC Wildfire Service suspects the fire is human-caused. The Guichon Creek wildfire is one of 127 current active wildfires burning across the province.
