Health Canada has issued a recall for Rowenta Cordless Vacuum Cleaners due to fire and burn hazards from the lithium-ion battery in the handle.

The affected models are the X-Force Flex 14.60 Animal (model RH99A2U1) and X-Force Flex 15.60 Animal (model RH99F2U1). The batteries, sold in red, black, and silver, carry model number ZR0097U2 with a date code beginning with either 23 or 24. Some 550 units were sold in Canada through Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon.

"The recalled lithium-ion battery in the vacuum cleaner can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burn hazards," Health Canada stated. Rowenta noted that thermal incidents are rare and cannot occur when the product is not in use.

As of July 2, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Rowenta Canada at 1-800-418-3325 (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday–Friday) or visit the company website to obtain a replacement battery.
