The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a suspicious grass fire on Friday, July 3 at 2:30 p.m. near Spall Road and Clement Avenue, off the Rail Trail in Kelowna.

Crew members found a rank-two grass fire estimated at 100 feet by 200 feet spreading toward Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. The fire was quickly contained, and crews remained on scene to establish a fire guard and extinguish hot spots.

The blaze forced the closure of the right northbound lane on Spall Road to accommodate emergency vehicles. The cause is under investigation and considered suspicious.
