Three people died in a head-on collision July 18 in the Laurentians near Lantier as the summer driving season peaked.

Emergency crews arrived shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Boulevard Rolland-Cloutier and Chemin du Lac Dufresne in the Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides area. According to the Sûreté du Québec, a northbound vehicle attempted to pass on the left to avoid a vehicle turning right in front of it, then collided head-on with a southbound car. The three occupants of the southbound vehicle — two adults and one child — were killed. The driver of the northbound vehicle sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A collision reconstruction specialist from the Sûreté du Québec examined the scene as investigators worked to determine the exact cause and circumstances. The road remained closed near Chemin de la Montagne Noire with a detour in place managed by Quebec's Transport Ministry.
