Quebec and Prince Edward Island named as Canada's only entries on Lonely Planet's 2027 best-places list

Lonely Planet released its annual 50 must-visit destinations for 2027, and only two Canadian provinces made the cut: Quebec and Prince Edward Island.

Lonely Planet designates Quebec as the best destination for Francophone culture in North America, spanning more than 1.5 million square kilometres. The guide highlights Quebec City's colourful cobblestoned streets, the Eastern Townships' vineyards and bucolic landscapes, the Saint Lawrence River as a whale-spotting location, and Montreal's vibrant culinary scene. The travel publisher, which has been highlighting the world's "most extraordinary places and experiences" since 1972, draws on the firsthand experience of its writers and editors.

Prince Edward Island earns the designation as the best spot for "catching your own dinner." The Canada's smallest province supplies roughly 80 per cent of North America's mussels, 30 per cent of Canada's oysters, and enough bluefin tuna to hold the title of Tuna Capital of the World. With more than 1,100 kilometres of coastline, a beach is reportedly within 15 minutes' drive from anywhere on the island. The listing mentions Prince Edward Island National Park's sand dunes and the Anne of Green Gables Museum.

Lonely Planet described PEI as "a seafood lover's paradise, it's the place to catch your own dinner by oyster tonging, lobster trapping, mackerel fishing or mussel gathering."
