Madison Shipman will make history Friday night as the first woman to serve as colour analyst for a Toronto Blue Jays regular-season broadcast, calling the game versus the San Diego Padres on Sportsnet.
Shipman, who has worked with the Blue Jays since 2023, will cover all three games of the series this weekend alongside play-by-play voice Dan Shulman. She tested the role earlier this year, calling two spring training games in Dunedin in February.
"She is really good and insightful, has earned it and then some," one user wrote on X following the announcement.
Shipman brings a professional softball background, having played for the University of Tennessee, and previous experience as an analyst and commentator for ESPN. Her appointment breaks a longtime gender barrier in Blue Jays broadcasting, where Joe Siddall and Caleb Joseph have traditionally filled the colour-analyst role alongside Shulman.
The milestone comes as women continue advancing in sports media roles across North American broadcasts. Shipman's appointment signals the Blue Jays' commitment to expanding representation in the booth.
The Blue Jays will look to extend their winning streak Friday, giving Shipman the opportunity to mark her debut with a victory.
