Quebec's comic-book scene is getting a major showcase in Europe. An exhibition entirely devoted to Quebec comics will run at the Musée de la BD in Brussels through June 2027, featuring the work of nearly 100 authors from across the province.
The exhibition, titled "L'Art de la BD… à la québécoise," invites visitors to discover the multiple stages of comic-book creation, the variety of narrative and graphic approaches, and the diversity of styles that compose the medium. Michel Rabagliati, Denis Rodier, Julie Doucet and Juliette Miron are among the Quebec authors whose work will be exhibited in the Belgian capital.
The curation was entrusted to Thomas-Louis Côté and Québec BD, which manages the Maison de la BD in Quebec City. Isabelle Debekker, director of the 40-year-old Brussels museum, said in a statement that the Musée de la BD has maintained a stimulating and pleasant collaboration with Québec BD for years. "The ninth art of Quebec is very dynamic and possesses great diversity that reflects well the breadth of what's on offer in contemporary comics," she said.
The Musée de la BD welcomes nearly 250,000 visitors annually from around the world to its exhibitions. Québec BD, established nearly 40 years ago, has worked to promote comics and integrate the medium into Quebec's literary and cultural landscape. The organization is recognized especially for hosting Festival Québec BD, the oldest comic-book festival in Canada.
