Two tornadoes touched down in Quebec during Tuesday's severe storm, the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) confirmed this weekend.
An EF1 tornado struck Harrington in the Laurentians around 5:40 p.m., packing winds of up to 175 km/h. The storm snapped power poles and trees, damaging barns and homes across the area. No injuries were reported.
Less than an hour earlier and about 50 km away, an EF0 tornado hit Saint-Donat in the Lanaudières region near Lac Beauchamp around 6:40 p.m., producing winds of up to 115 km/h. NTP said drone and satellite analysis revealed tree damage in the area. Further analysis of high-resolution images could result in an upgrade to EF2, the project noted.
Canada has experienced 86 tornadoes so far this year, including five in Quebec — making this week's pair part of an active season for the province.
