Sûreté du Québec investigates death in New Carlisle as 33-year-old held for questioning

The Sûreté du Québec has opened an investigation into a death that occurred in New Carlisle, in the Gaspé Peninsula, early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, emergency services were notified that a person had been found unresponsive on the side of the road in the Church Street area. The victim, who showed signs of injuries, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sûreté du Québec did not immediately specify the nature of the injuries.
A 33-year-old man described as being from the region was taken into custody in connection with the incident and will be met by investigators during the day.
The investigation is being conducted by the Sûreté du Québec's Crimes Against the Person Division. A forensic identification technician was dispatched to the scene to conduct a complete analysis.
