Woman in her twenties dies after falling near Marvel Peak in Banff National Park
A hiker lost her footing and fell in unsurvivable terrain Tuesday afternoon. This is the second hiking death in Banff in under a week.

A woman in her twenties is dead after falling from a mountain near Marvel Peak in Banff National Park on Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP responded after Parks Canada received a call from a group of four hikers coming from the British Columbia side on a multi-day hike. "The female lost her footing and fell," said Staff Sgt. Greg Tulloch, commander of the Canmore RCMP detachment. "She went down in a manner that was unsurvivable."
Members of the hiking group reached the woman, attempted first aid, and contacted emergency services. Parks Canada rescue specialists tried to reach the scene by helicopter Tuesday but were unable to get there due to bad weather. The hiker was recovered early Wednesday morning, and authorities are working to contact the family.
Marvel Peak is a roughly 2,650-metre summit in the southern part of Banff National Park near the British Columbia border and Kananaskis Country. It sits about three kilometres from the Continental Divide.
This death follows another fatal fall in the park over the weekend. A 65-year-old Calgary man died after falling from Mount Temple on Saturday. In June, a 47-year-old Airdrie woman died hiking Mount Bryant in Kananaskis Country.
