Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Calgary Wednesday night, accompanied by First Lady Olena Zelenska, for a multi-day visit to Canada focused on deepening defence, economic, and energy cooperation.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand greeted the delegation. The visit will include stops in Toronto and North Bay, and a scheduled address to Cabinet members at the Cabinet Planning Forum in Banff, Alberta. The specific date and agenda for the Banff address have not been released.
Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement Wednesday evening: "This visit underscores Canada's continued leadership in supporting Ukraine and reflects our unwavering commitment to a just and lasting peace."
The visit also aims to address the human cost of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Zelenskyy last visited Canada in December, when he met with Carney in Halifax. Carney visited Kyiv in August and announced additional Canadian military aid.
