Monday's come in cool—Toronto, June 1.
Sunny start, high UV, and a few road bumps to sidestep. Evening's got theatre and hockey.
Good morning. Monday's landed at 18°C—a proper drop from yesterday's warmth, so grab a layer before you head out. It's mainly sunny though, which is solid for the first day of June, and you've got nearly fifteen and a half hours of daylight to work with (sunset's at 8:52 PM). The catch: UV's sitting at 6, which is high. Sunscreen's non-negotiable if you're spending time outside.
If you're driving this morning, the highways have some nightly maintenance work still rolling. The QEW's got alternating lanes between East Mall and Bronte Road; the 409 and 427 have similar lane restrictions in their zones. Nothing catastrophic, but give yourself the usual extra time if you're heading west or south. Closer to home, keep in mind the TTC's got Line 1 closing nightly through Friday for track work—plan your commute around it if you're relying on the subway.
A couple of things worth knowing: the city's new electric ferries are launching, though there's already chatter about what it means for Toronto Islands' future. And if you've been thinking about counterfeit gear, Toronto police just seized a record haul of fake soccer jerseys—worth noting if you're shopping online. Also catching attention: some Scarborough condo residents woke up to surprise $3,000 water meter bills, so if you live in a building, might be worth asking your landlord what's happening.
Food-wise, the weather's warm enough for a patio if you want one. Sunnys Chinese is launching a summer barbecue collaboration series this week, and if you're keen on something sweet, there's a Roman Suppli pop-up starting on Dundas West this June. Isabella's Donuts is also running a Bruno Mars–themed Halo Halo limited edition if that's your thing. A few new bakeries are getting Dot Cakes this week too, so keep an eye out.
For tonight: if you're catching something cultural, Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish is running at the Elgin & Winter Garden at 7:30 PM—proper theatre. National Geographic Live is on at Roy Thomson Hall at 8:00 PM if you want something more talk-based. Hockey heads: the Marlies are at home against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Coca-Cola Coliseum at 7:00 PM. Old Mervs are playing the Horseshoe at 8:00 PM if you're after live music (19+). And if you need a daytime mission before any of that, Casa Loma's open from 9:30 AM.
Light holds till late, so you've got room to breathe this evening. Stay warm, slap on that sunscreen, and have a solid Monday.
