Warm and bright Tuesday ahead — Toronto, June 2.
20°C, mainly sunny, and that UV's high. Sunscreen's your friend today.
Good morning. Tuesday's landed exactly like yesterday—warm and bright at 20°C, mainly sunny across the board. The thing to know is the UV sitting at 8, which is high. If you're spending real time outside, sunscreen's non-negotiable. You've got nearly fifteen and a half hours of daylight (sunset's 8:53 PM), so there's plenty of time to get things done. Light holds till late, which makes for a good evening if you're thinking about getting out.
On the commute side, watch for a disabled vehicle on the 401 westbound collector ramp at Yonge—right lane and right shoulder are closed. Eastbound express at Yonge has two left lanes down as well. Give yourself extra time if you're heading that way. Also note that there's work on Broadway Ave between Bessborough and about 19 metres west, and Kipling Ave between Princess Margaret and 9 metres north, so plan around those if they're on your regular route. Nothing major disrupting the whole city today, but the usual commute friction.
Worth knowing: Guess Who is coming back to Scotiabank Arena for the first time in 23 years—that's a decent nostalgia move if you're into it. On a tougher note, there's a video of a Toronto cop tackling a cyclist circulating, and it's sparked the use-of-force conversation again. And over in Scarborough, there's real movement on finally opening up the Scarborough Bluffs to the public.
Food-wise, today's weather is built for eating outside. Sunnys Chinese has a summer barbecue collab series running, so that's worth a scoop if you want something with heat and flavour. Mailo's just opened their first North American pasta spot at CityPlace if you're downtown and want something straightforward. Bar Romy's taken over the old Figo's spot in the Entertainment District if you're looking for an evening drink or dinner.
Tonight's got live music and theatre dotting the city. Napalm Death and Primitive Man are at Lee's Palace starting at 6:30 PM if you're into that. There's theatre on at Meadowvale, and David Sedaris is doing his book tour at Indigo Bay & Bloor in the Manulife Centre at 7:00 PM. Pick your vibe and book something before 9 if it catches you.
One last thing: gas prices are jumping 8 cents tomorrow—biggest single-day bump since early May—so if you're thinking about filling up, today's still the cheaper move.
Stay cool, wear the sunscreen, and enjoy the light.
