Saturday's yours — sun's out, Jays are on, and the night's long.
Warm day, clear skies, live music waiting. A few road hiccups on the edges, but the 6ix is ready for it.
Morning. It's 17°C and mainly sunny out there — grab sunglasses if you're heading anywhere open. UV's sitting at 8, which is high, so if you're spending the day outside, don't sleep on the sunscreen. You've got until 9 PM to work with, so plenty of daylight to play with.
If you're heading north on the 404 around Markham this morning, watch for debris — they've got the HOV completely shut down at the 407, and there's still one left lane blocked on the regular side. On the 401 eastbound express near Markham Road, there's a disabled vehicle taking up the left shoulder and left lane. Nothing that'll kill your day, but factor it in if you're heading that way.
Couple of things worth knowing: Two drones got intercepted near Toronto Stadium recently — part of an ongoing thing that's been happening. Also, an 18-year-old was charged in connection with a shooting at the U.S. consulate, and some German fans got arrested at a World Cup match. Weird week in the headlines, but all on the edges of what most of us are thinking about.
Food-wise, if you're hunting a good lunch or dinner, there's some movement worth noticing. Mickey Limbo's just opened on Ossington replacing the old Dakota Tavern spot — could be worth checking out if you're in the neighbourhood. There's also buzz about soft-serve margaritas landing in the city, and Toronto Life just did their 10th annual Best Restaurants thing, so if you want a solid recommendation, that's fresh material to dig into. And if tipping's been stressing you out, a local startup's come up with an app to tackle that guilt-tipping feeling.
Tonight's where it gets good. The Jays are home at Rogers Centre at 3:07 PM taking on the Yankees — that's the play if you want to catch some baseball on a clear Saturday afternoon. If live music is more your speed, Hernan Cattaneo's spinning an extended set at Evergreen Brick Works starting at 4 PM, or there's theatre and a film festival screening happening around the same time across the city. Weather's clear, so if you're leaning outdoor, the Brick Works vibe is right there waiting.
