World Cup Sunday in T.O.—Jays game, live music, and perfect timing
Mostly cloudy, 17°C, and a long evening ahead. Your Sunday sorted.
Morning. It's 17 degrees and mostly cloudy—good news if you're heading out, because you've got nearly fifteen and a half hours of daylight to work with. Sunset's at 9 p.m., so whatever you're doing tonight, you've got time. UV's sitting at 3, so you don't need to go overboard, but a hat's not a bad idea if you're out for a few hours.
Few things to know if you're driving: there's a collision on the 403 westbound in Sauga at Eglinton with the left lane and shoulder closed, and the 401 westbound near Weston has the right lane tied up. Nothing catastrophic, but add a few minutes if you're heading that way. Don Valley before Eglinton and Lake Shore past Cherry are also moving slower than usual.
World Cup's got the city's attention—Ryan Reynolds flew in for Canada's opener, and the opening ceremony trophy prop took a hit (literally deflated mid-ceremony), but the buzz is real. If you want to soak it in, FIFA Fan Festival's happening today.
On the actual sports side: the Jays are home at Rogers Centre against the Yankees at 1:37 p.m. Summer baseball, good crowd energy, and it's a Sunday matinee—could be a good way to spend the afternoon.
If you're thinking about eating, Max Solomons has turned grief into some genuinely excellent Philly cheesesteaks—worth hunting down if that's your thing. Playa Bowls also just opened their first Canadian spot at The Well, which is solid if you want something lighter.
Evening's loaded. Dan + Shay are at the Opera House at 5:30 p.m. if live music's calling. There's also Dog Man—The Musical at the CAA Theatre at 5 p.m., and Casa Loma's got the Dressing the Abbey exhibit opening at 5:30 if you want something more low-key. Canadian Dance Academy's got a Senior Show at the Living Arts Centre at 4 p.m. if you're into that.
With fifteen-plus hours of light and mostly dry weather, this is a Sunday made for getting out. Whether you're catching a game, exploring the city, or just sitting somewhere good, conditions are on your side.
Stay easy out there.
