Friday's your day—World Cup vibes and live music all night.
Sunny, warm enough for patios. Watch the road, catch the festival, then pick your Friday.
It's finally Friday, and the 6ix is serving up decent weather to start the weekend. Fifteen degrees, mostly sunny, and you've got nearly fifteen and a half hours of daylight—sunset's at 9:02 PM, which means your evening can run as late as you want it to. UV's sitting at 8, which is high, so if you're heading outside for the FIFA Fan Festival or hanging on a patio later, slap on sunscreen and don't skip it.
Getting around: There's some highway noise to know about. The 427 northbound express has a collision near Burnhamthorpe with the left shoulder and a couple of left lanes shut down. On the 401, both the westbound on-ramps at Markham Road and Neilson Road are completely closed for maintenance, so if you're heading west out of the GTA, plan for that. There's also a collision on the 401 westbound express ramp at the 404/DVP with the right lane blocked. Nothing that kills your day, but leave a little extra time if you're hitting the highways.
On the local side, Jade Stronach's sexual assault trial heads to verdict today—that's been a story running through the city for a while now. Separately, former Liberal MP Han Dong is running for Scarborough North council, if you're paying attention to municipal politics.
Food-wise, if you're thinking lunch or an early dinner out, Pizza Pizza's running a World Cup box that literally turns your table into a playing field—it's the kind of ting that makes a Friday feel like an event. Tim Hortons brought back the Crispy Chicken Sandwich for summer if you're after something quick. And if you're in the mood for Korean, Mapo Korean BBQ just opened a second spot at Church and Wellesley. Sweet Minis are selling out daily over at the Harbourfront World Cup pop-up, so if you want one, get there before they're gone.
Tonight's where it gets good. The FIFA Fan Festival is running at Fort York and the Bentway from 1:30 PM onward, so if you want to catch that energy before it gets dark, now's the time. For the evening, you've got options: live music at Sneaky Dee's with KEEP and Black-Headed Gull, the Dressing the Abbey exhibit over at Casa Loma (5:30 and 6:00 PM slots), Pints & Ponytails at BOND|ST if you're in that mood, or catch the Scarborough Shooting Stars taking on Ottawa in parapan am aquatics at 6:30 PM. And it's all happening on a clear, mild night—perfect for being outside without a jacket.
Get out there and make it count. See you around the 6ix.
