World Cup Saturday — Germany's here, and the 6ix is ready
Partly cloudy, mild, and a major match at BMO Field. Get sorted before kickoff.
Morning. It's 12°C out there and staying partly cloudy all day—bring a layer if you're heading out, but the sun's strong enough that UV's sitting high at 7.0, so don't sleep on sunscreen. You've got a full 15 hours and 26 minutes of daylight, and sunset doesn't come until 9:02 PM, so there's real time to play with today.
If you're driving, keep an eye on the 427—there's a collision northbound on the express at north of the QEW with two right lanes closed, which'll back things up. The 404 northbound ramp at the 401 has a disabled vehicle with the right lane blocked too. Nothing that'll wreck your day, but worth knowing if you're heading that way early.
Couple of things worth knowing: there's a serious situation unfolding in North York with a woman sought in a death case, and separately, a 9-year-old was seriously hurt in a crash up there too. Both rough news. On a different note, if you've been meaning to try the new Pasta Basta over at Mirvish Village, a retired diplomat just opened it and it's already making waves on the Toronto pasta scene—could be a solid lunch plan if that's your vibe.
Now, the main event: Germany's taking on Ivory Coast at BMO Field at 4:00 PM—that's World Cup Group E, Match 33. If you're into it, this is the one to catch today. The whole FIFA Fan Festival energy is going to be live around the stadium, and if you're not a hard-core watcher, it's still a vibe worth experiencing.
If you want to eat somewhere new, Magnolia Bakery is bringing its banana pudding obsession to Ontario—worth a scoop if you need something sweet. Over at the Harbourfront World Cup pop-up, Sweet Minis are selling out daily, so get there early if that's on your list.
This evening's got options. There's the Canadian premiere of *Climbing for Life* at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre at 4:00 PM if you want something reflective. Vidyasagar's playing live at The Theatre at Great Canadian Toronto at 5:00 PM if you're in the mood for music. Casa Loma's got the *Dressing the Abbey* exhibit opening at 5:30 PM if you want to wander somewhere beautiful—the light'll be golden that time of day.
After the World Cup match winds down, the city's going to have that post-game buzz, so anywhere with a screen and decent sound will be packed. Plan accordingly.
Enjoy the daylight. See you out there.
