Wednesday sun, highway chaos, and the Jays at home tonight
Commute's a mess on the 401—plan ahead. Weather's mild but UV's high, and there's live music waiting.
Morning. It's 14°C and partly cloudy out there, which sounds nice until you remember the UV's sitting at 8—that's high, so if you're spending the day outside, get some sunscreen on. You've got a solid 15.5 hours of daylight, and sunset's at 9:03 tonight, so evening plans have room to breathe.
Now, the commute. The 401 Westbound ramp at Dixon and Martin Grove is completely shut down for a special event, and if you're coming in eastbound through Warden, the right lane and shoulder are closed because of a disabled vehicle. Over on the 409, the eastbound ramp at Martin Grove is also fully closed. If you're catching the 39 Finch East, they've got a detour running westbound via Victoria Park, McNicoll, and Don Mills because of a collision. Give yourself extra time this morning—the highways are having a day.
On the news side, there's a floating convenience store that's now set up in Toronto's harbour, which is genuinely sick if you're out on the water. Lakeridge Health is consolidating its diabetes clinics by month's end if you've got appointments to shuffle. And the province is putting $1.5B toward cutting development charges in T.O., which should help ease some pressure on housing. The Raptors also grabbed a 6-foot-8 forward in the draft to shore up their rebounding—always good to see the Raps addressing what they need.
If you're thinking dinner, Summerlicious is opening July 3, so early July's your window to hit some of the best spots in the city on deals. Queens Harbour's also got a Deep Sea Dinner Series running if you want something special. And there's a six-seat noodle bar opening in North York this July if you keep an eye out for it.
Tonite's got some solid options. The Jays are home at Rogers Centre at 7:07 against Houston—Astros in town. If live music's your thing, GODSMACK's doing the Rise of Rock tour at RBC Amphitheatre at 7:00, and there's indie rock at The Garrison and Kalsey Kulyk over at The Drake Hotel, both at 7:00 as well. If you want something more daytime, the FIFA Fan Festival is running at Fort York and the Bentway starting at 1:30—World Cup energy's in the air.
Stay sharp out there, keep your head up in the sun, and I'll see you around.
